Changing history

So there have been reports in the news recently that THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN and TOM SAWYER are being revised.

These new additions are not going to contain the N word. Which is found 219 times in HUCKLEBERRY FINN and 4 times in TOM SAWYER. They are planning on replacing this word with “slave”. Which clearly does not have the same effect at all.

I personally don’t like that word at all and I enforce a strict rule at my home that it is not allowed to be said. That being said, I don’t think we have a right to change history. Mark Twain deliberately put the that word in his books. Mark Twain apparently once wrote,  “the difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter.”

I think that this word should make people uncomfortable. When it does we need to take the opportunity to talk about it and address it, instead of erase it and sweep the entire issue under the proverbial rug.

From TWAIN CLASSICS…..“Twain published Huckleberry Finn in 1885, and it is set in pre-Civil War days when the character Jim was still in the grips of slavery. Twain set out to depict a southern U.S. of the past and Jim, a close friend of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, is frequently referred to with a racial slur.”

So my question is this are we now going to go through every single book in the history of the printed word and change anything that someone deems politically incorrect?

For those that know this has been a pet project of mine for a very long time. I wanted to create a zine just because I felt like it. I started with the mini zine format that only uses one sheet of paper. It is economical and lets face it kinda cute. So I embarked on this journey some time ago…last year, and I could never get it right, and honestly I still don’t think I have it right. But the version I have come up with so far I am really proud of.

Now I am going to try and scan a copy of it into the computer so that you all can see. Here it goes, if you don’t hear anything more from me it means I blew up my computer cuz I really don’t know what I am doing at this point lol.

So, it is called SPILLING FIRE and it at the moment is a small collection of things that are me. A bit of poetry, a recipe, some quotes that speak to me, etc. I am really hoping that now that I am almost finished (I have to do the cover and the final page) my inaugural issue I will be able to come to a more definitive idea of what I really want it to be like and start making regular issues of them.  If any of you would like a copy please email me your address and I will mail you one.

Inaugural mini zine

Well please let me know what you think. I know the copy isn’t very good but like I said before I really don’t know what I am doing lol. I still want to add some doodles and I have to do the cover and the last page, but basically that is what we have so far.

First off is a personal friend of mine but her blog is amazing…she always has something great to say, so please definitely go check her out

Next is a blog I have been checking out for some time now…again another amazing woman with strong views and opinions. Don’t know her personally but I think her blog is brilliant…check her out

Finally today I have another extremely talented woman for you to check out…her blog is amazing…especially if you love to doodle. She is the author of the book Doodle Diary: Art journaling for girls. I love checking her blog when I need some inspiration…

So as we begin this wonderful new year, my hope for all of you is that you are always able to be truly inspired by that which is around you!! Much love to all and Happy Creating

Holy Cow!!

So it has been a month since my last post. Life has really been getting in the way of this blog lately. The ideas I had for it were so lovely in my head and I really thought I could make them a reality but my inspiration left me soon after I started. I tried to do a journal challenge for myself but I couldn’t even get the creative juices to work for me there either. I tried I got a few pages done in any case.

I look at other blogs and they have theme days and give aways and cool pics and things like that. I still don’t even know what I want this blog to even be about. Maybe that is my problem. My blog isn’t cohesive it is just a mess kinda like me sometimes lmao. I want this blog to be about me but it doesn’t necessarily have to be as scatterbrained does it?

Well hopefully the followers I have can be patient enough with me to stick around and maybe I will be able to find something to attract new followers…

So I finally finished the yellow page for my art journal challenge. It seemed to take forever and I am still not sure it is complete. The word on the left side says LIGHT. I am not really happy with it at all.

The next page is GREEN!!!

Now on to some other things…today is Tuesday…and I have been trying to come up with some catchy theme days if you will so I am in the thinking process right now. I have seen other blogs have wordless wednesday, and moleskine monday…but I don’t know what I want to do.
Today I think I will just list some blogs that I love to visit, and hopefully you will check them out and love them too. So I guess I will call today BLOG LOVE (sorry if anyone already uses that title…I will change it if I come up with something more clever)

So I have three blogs to share today….the first one is dblogala.com a wonderful crafty, doodley blog by a wonderful lady. Dawn Sokol is the author of the book Doodle Diary: Art Journaling for Girls. I can’t wait to buy it for my daughter for Christmas this year.

The second blog I have chosen is robenmarie.com. Again another fantastic woman. She is a very talented mixed-media artist. Roben Marie creates beautiful pieces of mail art and art journals. Check out her site I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Finally today I share journalingsaves.com. I wonderful little site with a bunch of helpful stuff. A new exploration for me. I really like that there are some product reviews that I have found as well as journal prompt emails and loads of links and things to explore. Very nicely done.

So I hope you will check some of these out and get inspired to get creating. Who knows maybe I will continue to feature some blog love on Tuesdays from now on….if only I could actually do my blog as often as I wanted to…..

OOOH and yay me…I figured out how to linky loo!!!

Art Journal Challenge #3

Hello everyone. So today is journal challenge day. This week’s topic still follows the theme of the RAINBOW so we have already done RED and ORANGE so next of course is YELLOW.

An entire page spread in the colour yellow. Feel the colour and let it be your guide for this page.

Happy Creating!

Happy ‘Sunday’ everyone…I know technically it is Monday morning where I am but I haven’t been to sleep yet so for me it is still Sunday. Here is my finished page for the ORANGE art journal challenge.

After I go to sleep and wake up again I will post the next challenge page. Again please feel free to join me in the challenge. I hope to do something more when this one is finished.

Happy Creating.

Ok so here we go!! I had started an Art Journal Challenge some time ago and then a whole bunch of crappy things happened and I couldn’t continue with the challenge but now I can so…here it goes…

The first week we had was the colour RED and that went well for me. The pic is on here already.

So this “week” the colour is ORANGE..an entire art journal spread reflecting the challenge colour…

I will post each new challenge on a Monday and post pics of the final product on Sundays. I hope some of you out there will join me in the fun…and I promise this time I won’t loose my journal lol

Happy Creating!!

So a couple of really awesome things:

1. The least important of the bunch but I found my art journal so I can FINALLY continue on with my art journal challenge that I gave myself and if any of you would like to join in that would be awesome too. More on that on the official art journal challenge day which of course is tomorrow.

2. MY SON IS ALMOST FINISHED!!!! As I mentioned a little bit ago my son has been battling cancer and he is finally after 3.5 years finished he chemotherapy tomorrow night. He will get his last dose tomorrow before bed and he will NEVER have to take it again!!! He has an 80% cure rate for his cancer and the severity of his case. So I am really optimistic about it. and yes I know that should be number one it is in my heart!!

3. I won a giveaway on a fantastic blog http://www.dblogala.com (sorry still don’t know how to make links I really should learn that it seems pretty basic) And she sent me these fantastic markers that I have never had the pleasure of using before. They are TOMBOW dual ended marker/pens. They are fabulous for journaling and doodling. http://www.tombowusa.com/craft/brushpens
I got the groovy colours…beautiful. So that was pretty exciting for me too.

Well that is it for tonight I will be back tomorrow to post the details for the rejuvenation of the art journal challenge!!!

Happy Creating
